As most choirs seem to have a standard Dos and Don'ts list, here is ours:

We DO like a challenge   We DON’T audition – if you would like to sing with us, we would LOVE to have you
We DO want you to enjoy singing with us   We DON’T expect 100% attendance – we hope to make the rehearsals enjoyable enough that you WANT to come every week
We DO want to perform entertaining concerts   We DON’T have rules about minimum attendance before a concert – everyone has commitments
We DO want to cater to all needs and abilities   We DON’T expect you to buy all your music – we will endeavour to provide this from choir funds
We DO want to help you get the best from your voice   We DON’T expect you to be able to read music – but we will help you if you want to
We DO supply you with the means to learn your parts at home   We DON’T expect you to purchase a special uniform – anything out of the ordinary will be provided

Unfortunately the choir is proving very popular, with new members joining most weeks. To enable us to give new members the time and attention that they deserve when joining us, we have recently decided on the following change of rules.

People interested in joining the choir may come to any rehearsal (preferably advising a committee member in advance so that we are expecting you), and whilst testing us out you will be sharing music with an existing member. At set points in the year (just after a major concert / when we are changing our repertoire) we will allow new members to officially join the choir and get their own pack of music for rehearsals and concerts. The next few dates for joining the choir are:

6th October 2010 (as we start to learn our Christmas concert music), 5th January 2011 (as we start to learn our Regency concert music), 20th April 2011 (as we start to learn our Summer concert music).

This arrangement is not because we aren't interested in new members, but just to allow us to balance performing excellent entertaining concerts and giving new members the time and attention that they deserve. For more details please contact our Membership Officer.
