Hello and Welcome to the Home Page of the Sans Pareil Singers!

The SPS was set up as a Community Choir, by Andrew and Vicki Young in 2009. Its members are from all walks of life and all ages (30's - 80's) with different degrees of expertise in singing.

Singing, we believe is good for the Body and the Soul and we all enjoy our rehearsals which take place each Wednesday night, at All Saints Church, Church Row, Hurworth, starting at 7.30pm. There are no auditions and if you wish to join us you will be made very welcome. Andy says that if you turn up, that is your audition.. and you've passed it!  So, come along any Wednesday evening and see what we get up to.

We are a mixed choir and currently have around 68 members, having welcomed several new singers since our return from the Summer break. Our membership fee of £84 per Annum can be paid, Monthly, Weekly, Quarterly or Annually; in Cash, by Cheque or Standing order. We are, as you can see, very flexible! Our Ethos is, if you Want to sing, you are able to sing. We sing for our own enjoyment, to give pleasure to others and to enjoy the company and friendship of our fellow members. In our Concerts we do all of these plus raise money for good causes. We aim to make our rehearsals light-hearted and enjoyable. If you don't know the words, or are not sure of the tune, just join in anyway; we really don't mind too much. Andy is a primary school teacher and is extremely patient with us!

We can and have performed in small, private concerts, large public concerts; At weddings, funerals, christenings, etc. We enjoy singing  alongside other local choirs, especially during our Anniversary and Christmas Concerts. Our music is very variable; from Abba to Lloyd Webber, and from Beethoven to Beatles. Why not visit the music page and listen to one or two of our songs? So, we are on our Summer Break, but there are things I need to tell you...

Dolphin Concert June 2017

We raised £450 for St Teresas' hospice, which was pretty amazing given the change of date and short notice in which to advertise and sell tickets. We presented a cheque to Chris Baron, from the hospice, at choir practice and a few weeks' later, Marion (very busy concert co-ordinator person), received a Thank You certificate from them. I will add both photographs to the webpage. Well done Us! No doubt we will be back for another concert there in the future.

Eldon Concert July 19th

Once again we had a really good concert at St Mark's Church. The audience were very welcoming and the supper afterwards was delicious. Lots of home made jams and pickles, but one complaint.. Still no Lemon Curd! Andy was back conducting and managed the whole night without the aid of CPR! John, meanwhile, was sitting on keyboards for a change and did a stirling job of playing through everything whilst our long suffering painist, Paul, was on a well deserved holiday with his good lady.

Wednesday September 6th

First day back after the Summer break. A night to give out music and catch up on all the news/ gossip! This time there will also be an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). The SPS Constitution was due for review by the end of August this year, so a couple of month's ago a selection of the committee met and went through the document. There are no great changes, but the updated version needs to be seen and approved by all members of the choir as we are a self- governing group now. Gill (Secretary) will be sending out the details and the new document for you all to peruse before the 6th so that you will have chance to see the proposed alterations, thus making the EGM a briefer experience! Once approved, I intend to put a copy of it on this website for reference purposes.

In with the Constitution, there will be other information, including a Code of Practice sheet, written a few years' ago to be given to all current members and to be included in all new starters packs from now on. It explains what the choir and its members expect from each other in an informal way, unlike the constitution which is much more formal and precise.

Once the 'technical' stuff is completed, the committee thought that it would be quite pleasant to have a Faith Supper.. where everyone can bring a LITTLE something to share whilst we chat. Tea, coffee and juice will be provided. A few savoury and sweet things as we have done in the past would help the evening along. Perhaps we can persuade Paul to play something on the piano, or incite others to read a poem or two???? (Hint, hint!)

Finally, I would like to ask members to contribute towards the content of this webpage. Any items which would be enjoyed by members and non members who visit the site would be very welcome. Please send me what you have and I will add it in.
